Togher Community Association


Background

Togher Community Association was formed in 1969 and started trading as Togher Community Association Ltd in 2000. The Association is presided over by a board of management with Mr. Niall McCarthy as chairperson. In 2001/02 the Togher Community Centre was extensively refurbished and extended as a cost of £1.1m. It is now known as Togher Community & Social Services Centre.


Current usage of the Centre

There are many services available in the centre. At present HSE are the anchor tenant that provides a range of services for the local community.


The Togher Music School runs alongside the FAS CE scheme which currently has 14 participants and a supervisor, Noreen Crowley. In addition to TMS which provides tuition to over 450 students; Togher Children’s Theatre; Meals on Wheels; ICA; Women’s Active Group; Retired Gents Group; Togher Wednesday Social Group; Togher Over 60’s; Youth Café; Fields Committee; Read Write Now; Resident’s Associations and a range of other leisure activities.


Management and Staff

There are 13 members on the board of directors with Niall McCarthy as chairperson. There are an additional 11 staff at the Centre, with Noreen Crowley in the role of centre manager.


Aims of the Association

The aims of the association are to establish, provide and operate a community development program that services the urban and rural areas of Togher. The association prioritises their economic, social and cultural aspirations to cater for all needs across the area and encourage and facilitate local initiatives where the need arises.
